One week before National Signing Day in February, there were four schools in contention for Hutchinson CC (Kansas) three-star defensive tackle Jaden Cunningham. But even with one official visit remaining, Cunningham decided he didn’t need it when he committed to Virginia Tech on Jan. 30. He signed his letter of intent that next week.

Looking back on that choice, there were multiple factors for Cunningham. He liked the university, the surroundings, and the program. It also came from a personal level. As he finishes up his remaining course load at Hutchinson and prepares for the FBS level, Cunningham looks fondly at the relationships he forged with the Hokies.

“I love my decision, everything about it,” he said. “They stuck with me. Blacksburg is beautiful, anyway. Other people say they’re going to be with you, but they were with me the whole process. They were serious and they wanted me.”
