Braxton Burmeister is always billed as a West Coast guy. Since the age of one, he grew up in California and later played at La Jolla Country Day High School (CA).

But few know that Burmeister has East Coast roots. He was born in Virginia. His father is from Oakton, Virginia, while his mother grew up in Maryland.

Now Burmeister is going back to those roots. Last week, Burmeister made the decision to transfer from Oregon to Virginia Tech. He played as a true freshman at Oregon in 2017, but then redshirted last fall (he played in the maximum-allowed four games) behind starting quarterback Justin Herbert. Now, Burmeister said he’s ready for what lies ahead with the Hokies.

“I feel like they were just completely honest during the whole process,” he said. “They said they were interested but they did their homework. It was a process with them. I felt comfortable about it. They didn’t just jump on. They took their time and that made me feel comfortable with it. When I went on my official, I fell in love with the campus, the program and just the people there.”
