Brock Hoffman
Offensive Lineman, Transfer from Coastal Carolina
6-3, 310

Virginia Tech added to it’s increasing offensive line depth by picking up a commitment from Coastal Carolina transfer interior lineman Brock Hoffman on Friday night.

Hoffman was recruited by Virginia Tech out of high school, but he never received a scholarship offer.  He enrolled at Coastal Carolina instead, becoming the first true freshman in school history to start at center.  He spent his sophomore season at right guard.  He could potentially play any of the interior offensive line positions for the Hokies.

Hoffman has two years of eligibility remaining, as well as a redshirt, if needed.  However, he has applied for a waiver from the NCAA to play immediately because of a coaching change at Coastal Carolina.  If he’s granted the waiver, he’s expected to contribute in 2019 for Tech.  He also held offers from FBS programs Appalachian State and Charlotte.

    1. That and Vah Tech…..
We can hold hands and jump off the bridge together.
You would expect the play to know the name of the College or University they plan to attend!

      1. I do believe Tyrod Taylor committed to Virginia Tech University – that seemed to work out OK for Vah Tech!

        1. And Michael Vick committed to the University of Virginia Tech. Scared the you-know out of the recruiters momentarily.

  1. We didn’t offer out of high school? Coastal, App and Charlotte? Doesn’t sound like this guy can play in the ACC.

    1. Seems to me it’s like a JUCO player who needed more time to develop post high school before he was ready for P5 football. IMO he will be a good addition.

    2. I’m not holding my breath but, he at least looks the part, sometimes those guys w/two years to play know it and don’t waste a second b/c they know it will go by fast, they will be in the moment and maybe JUCO was where he needed to be to get his act together.

OK, don’t want to get too cute, his job is to hold the fort until some of the hs players can develop. but I guess I’m rooting for him.

    1. Rule 1: When you mean it is or it has, use an apostrophe. Rule 2: When you are using its as a possessive, don’t use the apostrophe.

Which it’s (it is) opposite for a name possessive, like BJ’s.

    2. On the contrary, it’s is a contraction for it is. It is uses correctly above. Its is a possessive pronoun. Here’s a sentence with both. The dog scratched its back because it’s itching.

  2. I don’t know what the circumstances stances are but I heard Ohio St just had a QB transfer from GA who got a waiver to not have to set out a year.

    1. Check out the football board- Justin Fields. Many say it was a dubious claim- a baseball player yelled a racial slur at him. They did kick that other player off the team, but it was enough for him to get his waiver.

    2. Some Jackass baseball player held up some pitiful racial slur sign (don’t know what it said). He claimed he was uncomfortable and felt threatened by being in Georgia and ncaa didn’t want to upset him…

NOW, several things need to be included in that explanation:. FIRST, and foremost, that moron who held up the racial sign should have been beaten to within an inch of his pitiful life.. This is 2019 and there is NO place for that, or people like that..PERIOD!
SECOND, I hope he doesn’t expect Ohio to be the bastian of peace and understanding. With all due apologies to the good people of Ohio (and they are, by and large, good people), the same kind of moron who went to UGA lives and thrives in central OHIO…Make NO mistake about that.

THIRD, and perhaps telling to the QB’s TRUE motive. His SISTER just enrolled at UGA. I could care less about UGA, and even less about the pitiful punk who held up the racial slur sign, BUT.. unless the family hates the sister, they couldn’t have felt but SO threatened by UGA in general…

Still, good excuse. nobody would question it, and I would expect nothing less than the toothless ncaa to grant the waiver..Obviously the family lawyer knew the same! So, if you so much as BOO a player…expect him to be upset and gonzo….Free Agent Wild Wild West!

      1. We’re promoting kids who do t take responsibility for their own commitments with this portal. Fields committed to UGA knowing what QBs they had but he probably thought he could win the job. After not winning it he should t get to tuck tail and run to the next best place just bc they have an opening.

This teaches kids zero responsibility and consequence for their own actions. I hate it.

  3. Love it!!!! After all these years we have been wanting to see an OL and finally the coaches are delivering. Welcome Home Brock!!!!!! Hokie fans are soooooooooooo excited!!!!

  4. Our OL has gone from outhouse to penthouse level with the Vice Squad! Based on who is already in the pipeline and who is coming, we have the makings of some dominant OLs in the near future and beyond.

    1. Not about stars, it’s not about production, or yards or first downs….it is all about wins, the Coastal Championship, the ACC title and the natty. Will not be holding my breath but am certainly hopeful. All these guys still have to work. Grab a lunch pail fellas, the mountain to the top is steep.

    2. And it makes me worried about the defense. Defensive recruiting has fallen off and I fear we are trading a good offense for average to above average defense from here on out. Hope I’m wrong!

      1. Yup. Along with the portal, it’s another attempt to give players the same freedom the coaches have.
