A Surprising Virginia Tech Uniform Reveal for Orange Effect: Hokies Go With Maroon

Given that it’s Orange Effect Thursday night for Virginia Tech’s game with Georgia Tech, you’d think the Hokies would go with … well, orange, for their uniform reveal.

But in a twist, Virginia Tech is going with the traditional maroon helmet, maroon jersey, and white pants.

  1. Orange unis are Fugly. Glad to see this combo as it’s the best we have and should be worn at ALL home games, IMO, with the only substitute being maroon pants occasionally.

  2. I’m glad others on here think an “Orange Effect” game is weird any weekend after the end of September. People don’t have burnt orange jackets and a stadium full of hunting gear would look strange on TV. We need to hold the orange effect games early, along with the stripe effect (which looked awesome on TV BTW). Keep the maroon effect or any blackout for later in the season.

  3. Hopefully we burned the orange uniforms after the ODU game and couldn’t wear them again even if we wanted to.

  4. Plus I like the traditional uniform look when we are on national tv. For the casual fan I want to make it easy for them to recognize which team VT is and promote a singular image. Like Texas or Penn State or even ND. Oregon is the exception but there are good rea$on$ there.

  5. Given the temperature forecast, I’m likely to look more like a Pitt or ND fan with the coat I’ll be wearing, or maybe I’ll go with the all black…we’ll see. My son’s jacket is more of a Seattle Seahawks look. Hokie hats, VT gear underneath, but my one VT jacket is WAY too bulky for this.

    1. I’ll be wearing a maroon jacket (or maybe black) and maroon hat. Nobody will see my shirt so maybe it will be orange???

    1. I agree with you. Those orange uniforms are the ugliest uniforms I have ever seen in my 74 1/2 years of living. And it’ s not even the right orange — I don’t know why the administration can’t figure out it is BURNT orange, not bright neon orange.

  6. The Orange Effect is DOA due to the chilly weather forecast. Hardly anybody owns an orange jacket.

    1. Um, it’s SWVA. Blaze orange hunting jackets might be the single most common article of clothing in the region.

      1. For a long time, camo was my “color” of choice in extremely cold weather games. Duck hunting jackets are perfect. Shotgun shell slots on the inside of the jacket also closely match the size needed for airplane bottles (if one were interested in such a thing). pat-down all you want, feels fluffy!

    2. Agree. I have a hard time paying $10 for a orange t-shirt. I am not buying anything bulky and orange. I would look like the Syracuse mascot.
