Virginia Tech basketball has received a verbal commitment from 2019 combo guard Anthony Harris.  Harris, from Paul VI Catholic in Fairfax, is Tech’s first commitment of the 2019 recruiting class.

Harris chose the Hokies over offers from Wake Forest, Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Miami, Ohio State, West Virginia, and others.  He is highly-rated nationally by the recruiting services.

The 6-3 guard visited Duke over the weekend, where he watched the Tech-Duke football game.  However, he did not come away with a scholarship offer from the Blue Devils.

Harris is expected to be one of many players to sign with the Hokies in the 2019 class.  As of now, only seven scholarship players on the current team are projected to be back for 2019-20: Kerry Blackshear, Wabissa Bede, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, PJ Horne, Isaiah Wilkins, Jonathan Kabongo and Landers Nolley.

  1. Don’t know anything about him but in that picture he looks like a real “baller”.

I mean that in a good way.

  2. Great news and hopefully a sign that Buzz and his staff are getting more done on the recruiting trail than people expect.

  3. I welcome Mr Harris…. no doubt. But I notice his shooting technique will have to evolve for his college and professional game to prosper. He launches his 2 point and his long range shots from his neck level and not from his crown or above head level. Really good defenders are going to easily close on him and stuff or alter his shot. It can sometimes be extremely diffiHopefully the shooting coaches will get this turned around (hopefully).

  4. So, Branden Palmer and Tyrece Radford, both listed on 2018-2019 roster, are not on scholarship?

    1. Robinson, Hill and Clarke will be seniors this year, along with Ty Outlaw. Signing Harris will in effect replace one of those guys on the roster next season (2019-20).
