Aaron Willis
Linebacker, Class of 2021
St. Frances Academy, Baltimore, MD
6-0, 200

Virginia Tech picked up a surprise commitment on Friday afternoon when 2021 linebacker Aaron Willis announced his decision to play football for the Hokies.

Willis is listed as an outside linebacker, and he plays for St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, which is where current Hokie wide receiver Damon Hazelton played for his first three seasons of high school.  Only a sophomore, Willis already has offers from Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, Pitt, Georgia Tech, Maryland and UVA.

Listed at 6-0, 200, Willis still has plenty of developing to do.  However, he was a great player as a freshman last year.  He played on the edge at the line of scrimmage.  It’s unclear which position he projects to at the college level, but right now Backer would be the right guess, depending on his future growth.

Willis is originally from the Richmond area, and he has visited the Virginia Tech campus on multiple occasions, including for the recent game against William & Mary. He has built a very good relationship with the coaching staff.  There is a long way to go in his recruitment, but he seems very comfortable with his decision at this stage.

  1. Awesome news and appreciate the feedback from others in the know, but why does nobody block that guy in the highlight reel? Go Hokies!

  2. Sounds like a great get. He’ll easily be 220+ by the time he gets to VT & ready to play some Hokie Ball.

  3. His first clip on the highlights is vs my son’s HS Archbishop Spalding. The other teams in the MIAA stopped playing St Francis this year and conceded the MIAA title to them due to I guess concerns about getting players injured as St Francis is pumping out kids going to D1 schools like crazy. 2 Bama commits on roster right now that I know of and a bunch more elsewhere. If he’s a stud at that HS then he can be the real deal at VT. Hope he stays the course.

  4. Irrespective of the ending in this situation, love the recruiting tactics and effort…early identification, follow up, and leaving a positive impression.
