The Associated Press preseason football poll was released today, and Virginia Tech checks in at No. 20. This goes along with their No. 17 ranking in the preseason coaches poll, making it the second year in a row the Hokies have been ranked in both preseason polls. Prior to 2017 and 2018, you have to go all the way back to the 2012 preseason polls to find the Hokies ranked in both.

Here’s a look at the complete poll:

The Hokies are one of four ranked ACC teams:

  • No. 2 Clemson
  • No. 8 Miami
  • No. 19 Florida State
  • No. 20 Virginia Tech

Of note: Those are the same rankings that Clemson, Miami and Florida State had in the Coaches Poll, but the Hokies slipped from No. 17 in the Coaches Poll to No. 20 in the AP.

Also receiving votes in the ACC:

  • NC State 22 (No. 32)
  • Boston College 18 (ranked No. 34)

  1. That seems like a better ranking to me. Wisconsin at 4 stands out. Are they supposed to be that good?

    1. Wisconsin didn’t suck last year… and they’re atop somebody’s ballot, ahead of Bama and Clemson, so they must be bringing a lot back.

    2. Yup. 4 future nfl offensive linemen on the team and beast at RB. Defense should be pretty good too
