TechSideline.com Announces Cory Van Dyke as 2018 Football Beat Writer

Virginia Tech rising junior Cory Van Dyke, a Sports Media & Analytics major, has joined the TechSideline.com team as the 2018 football beat writer.

TechSideline.com is pleased to announce that Cory Van Dyke, who has been covering baseball and Olympic sports for us for the last two years, will be our Virginia Tech Football beat writer for the 2018-19 academic year.

Cory will begin his assignment by traveling with us to Charlotte for the 2018 ACC Football Kickoff event this week, and he’ll continue throughout football season, covering press conferences and games for us.

Cory is a rising junior at Virginia Tech, studying Multimedia Journalism with a concentration in Sports Media & Analytics. He grew up in Chesterfield, VA just outside of Richmond and went to Manchester High School. In his senior year in high school, Cory won the Rich Murray Journalism Scholarship, which honors the top high school sports journalist in the state of Virginia.

Cory’s two older brothers both attended Virginia Tech and therefore started the family’s love for all things maroon and orange during the Tyrod Taylor era.

Over the past two years, Cory has written 70 articles for TechSideline.com, primarily covering the Virginia Tech baseball team, including the transition under Coach Szefc last season. Cory has also covered Olympic sports for TSL, writing articles about wrestling, men’s soccer, lacrosse, and softball.

In addition to the Hokies, Cory’s favorite sports teams are the San Francisco Giants and Dallas Cowboys.

Please welcome Cory to the TSL team!

  1. Welcome aboard and thanks for taking the job. Don’t let ’em work you too hard. Looking forward to your work.

  2. Thanks everyone for welcoming me on board! Sorry to deter some of you by being a Cowboys fan… looks like I’ll just have to win you guys over with my coverage.

    1. Congratulations from another Cowboys fan! Looking forward to reading your content.

  3. Cory you’ve landed in a great spot with a large base of pretty reasonable readers. Please get started on your Jermey Webb’s miraculous Achilles heal !

    1. Cory you are working with the best. Seen the founders work since Hokie central. You don’t need me to tell ya what to do. Learn from the brass and ask all questions. There are no bad questions. Congrats.

  4. Welcome to the football beat… I’ll try not to hold that Cowboys thing against you too much.

  5. Sounds like a good hire…..except the Cowboys angle….well, there IS the matter of their cheerleaders! 😉

  6. Cory, this is a great opportunity for you and I’m sure that your promotion is well deserved. Congratulations 🎉 I look forward to your insights as a student Hokie, representing our future.

  7. Look forward to seeing your articles. Welcome to the Main Sport… Football.. and all the Others.

  8. Congrats Cory. Don’t let them make you drive the new TSL vehicle the entire trip.

    1. Please excuse the dumb question, but what happened to Ricky? I don’t read TSL much during the off-season, so if there was some kind of announcement, I missed it. However, I don’t see Ricky’s bylines here any more and, meanwhile, I see “Other News” links on the TSL home page to his blog. Did Ricky start up his own VT sports gig?

        1. TSL has done a good job at making his departure a non-story… or maybe a bad job, depending on how curious you are.

        2. Thanks for the Twitter link. Reading that sure made my eyebrows furl a bit. It took forever to load because of all the comments. All I know is that there’s always two sides to every story…..

      1. Ricky has a blog which appears from time to time in the margin of this Techsideline.com.

  9. Hey, what are they trying to pull here – he doesn’t look at all like Dick or Jerry.

Welcome aboard, even tho you’ve been here a while.

  10. Welcome aboard in a more involved capacity Cory. Take advantage of the opportunity and give us some good content!
