Virginia Tech released the 2018 football roster this morning, and we have added it to our site.

At this point in the summer, the football roster is a rapidly-changing thing. Player heights, weights, and even numbers and positions are subject to change. We will update our posted roster right up until football season begins.

  1. i do wish we didn’t have duplicate jersey numbers. i know all these kids have their fav numbers, but …

i, also, am afraid someone (backup/substitute) on special teams will run their duplicate jersey number while an unsuspecting regular is playing and – boom! – penalty on what would have been an uneventful play. and either the penalty on us sparks th eother team or on the replay it turns into a big play for the opposition.

    Go 13!
    Go Hokies!

  2. Unless I missed something the roster seniors, man have we ever been this young, need plenty of patience early this year.

    1. We are younger than the Hoos for once! UVa is SOOOOO jealous of our youth this year! 😉

  3. Weights may have changed but with the fewest “swings” I can ever recall. Just 1-2 lbs in most cases.

  4. That roster sure is filled with a lot of freshmen and sophomores. The future looks bright.

    1. It is common to have a bunch of freshmen and sophomore on most rosters. Classes get smaller as they get older.

    1. At some point, we’ll run an article analyzing the roster, but at this point, it’s too volatile. Literally about 1/3 of the weights changed during the day today. I downloaded the roster around 10:30 AM, and while I was finalizing it late this afternoon, I compared weights to the roster posted on hokiesports.com. I had to update about a third of the player weights, meaning that many had changed between my 10:30 download and 4 PM posting of this article.

So there’s too much in flux right now to get into a lot of detail on it. In the meantime, there’s some good discussion on the subscriber board about some things that posters noticed. Here’s a link:
