Virginia Tech got a pleasant surprise this morning when 2019 athlete Cam’Ron Kelly announced his verbal commitment to the Hokies.

What makes this a surprise commitment is that Kelly did not include Virginia Tech in his final eight schools before making his announcement.  His eight finalists were Virginia, Penn State, Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Auburn, and Washington State.

Kelly plays for Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA.  He is a defensive back in high school, and he is projected to play in the secondary for the Hokies.  Kelly becomes Tech’s highest-rated commitment of the 2019 class thus far…

247: 4-stars, No. 186 nationally, No. 19 ATH, No. 5 player in VA
Rivals: 4-stars, No. 135 nationally, No. 5 player in VA
ESPN: 4-stars, No. 229 nationally, No. 20 cornerback, No. 5 player in VA

Kelly is listed at 6-1, 190.

  1. Thanks for picking the Good Guys! See you in Orange and Maroon soon and the NFL in a few more years!

  2. What an outstanding offer list of colleges looking for his services. He has the potential of being a very good player, if you go by his offer list. We are very fortunate to obtain his services, especially when we were not expecting him to sign with us ! Who was his main recruiter ? Go Hokies !

  3. Wow. What a surprise. Just reminds me that the staff is always working. We will miss a few, but it is not for the lack of effort. Support the staff and enjoy the success!
