4-Star Defensive Back Nyquee Hawkins Commits to Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech kicked off the recruiting fireworks early on Friday, hauling in a commitment from Class of 2019 defensive back Nyquee Hawkins just one day before the Hokies’ Spring Game on Saturday.

Hawkins is a 6-foot, 180-pound prospect from Orange, N.J. Hawkins holds 22 reported scholarship offers, most of which are from Power 5 programs. Florida State, Michigan, NC State and Penn State are among the most notable.

Here are Hawkins’ rankings from the major recruiting networks…

247Sports: Three-star, No. 6 in New Jersey, No. 416 overall

Rivals: Four-star, No. 8 in New Jersey

ESPN: Four-star, No. 4 in New Jersey, No. 182 overall

Hawkins gives Virginia Tech their sixth commitment for the ’19 class. He’s also Virginia Tech’s second commitment this week, joining offensive lineman Bryan Hudson. Four of Virginia Tech’s six commitments are from outside the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Virginia Tech could see more action on Saturday, when the Hokies host recruits for their annual Spring Game. Tech’s Spring Game will kick off around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
