Evans Working Way Back From Injury

All Mays (Ga.) athlete Jahquez Evans could think about at the time was getting the extra yardage in the open field. Evans had caught a pass in Mays’ state quarterfinal game last November against Lee County (Ga.). He saw defenders bounding closer, but Evans tried to make a move to pick up more yards.

Instead, a defender crashed into his ankle and broke it. The recovery since then has been tough. It’s a contributing factor in why Evans does not have more offers to this point. But he’s nearing full strength, and the time away from the field has given him more time to delve into his recruitment.

Looking back on the injury, Evans (6-2, 180) said he plans to make some adjustments when he’s in similar situations in the future.

“I ain’t going to lie, it hurt a lot,” he said. “But I learned to slide. Run out of bounds, don’t get injured. I don’t want to do that anymore. I was running for 30 yards or so. I tried to cut in, and the two DBs came and hit me from behind. It just twisted. It hurt pretty bad.”
