The Virginia Tech wrestling program claimed its second straight ACC Championship over the weekend, knocking off rival ACC power NC State. The victory avenged a close loss to the Wolfpack in a dual meet on February 16.

1: Virginia Tech, 81 points
2: NC State, 73 points
3: UNC, 52.5 points
4: Duke, 47.5 points
5: UVA, 34 points
6: Pitt, 33.5 points
The ACC Championships were held at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, NC. Four Hokies were crowned ACC Champions at their respective weight class, and three more were runners up. The following were crowed ACC Champions…
133 pounds: Dennis Gustafson, redshirt-senior
141 pounds: Brent Moore, redshirt-freshman
165 pounds: David McFadden, redshirt-sophomore
197 pounds: Jared Haught, redshirt-senior
Moore was named Most Valuable wrestler for his two victories over UNC’s AC Headlee and NC State’s Kevin Jack. Jack was the two-time defending ACC Champion and the fifth-ranked wrestler in the country at the 141 pound weight class.
The following wrestlers were runners up…
149 pounds: Ryan Blees, redshirt-junior
174 pounds: Hunter Bolen, freshman
184 pounds: Zack Zavatsky, redshirt-junior
Eight Virginia Tech wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Championships: the seven wrestlers listed above, plus redshirt-freshman heavyweight Andrew Dunn. That’s the most Tech wrestlers to qualify for the NCAA Championships since the 2015-16 season.
NCAA Championships begin Thursday, March 15, and run through Saturday, March 17.
