Class of 2018 Offensive Lineman Jesse Hanson Commits to Virginia Tech

Jesse Hanson
Jesse Hanson became Virginia Tech’s third commitment of the 2019 class.

Virginia Tech picked up a big verbal commitment on Thursday afternoon when Lord Botetourt (Daleville, Va.) offensive linemen Jesse Hanson made his decision.  The three-star prospect became Tech’s third commitment of the 2019 recruiting class.

Hanson chose the Hokies over scholarship offers from schools such as Virginia, Duke, Iowa State, UNC and West Virginia.  He was one of the highest players on Tech’s 2019 recruiting board, and the first offensive lineman to commit for the class.

Rivals.com ranks Hanson as a 3-star prospect and the No. 8 overall player in the state of Virginia.  They also rank him as the No. 13 overall offensive guard prospect nationally.  247Sports and ESPN have yet to rank Hanson for the 2019 class, but he is expected to end up as a similarly ranked player by both of those services.

Hanson joins Richmond athlete Jahad Carter and Charlotte wide receiver Elijah Bowick as Tech’s early commitments for 2019.

  1. Welcome Jesse! LB football has come a long way since I was there (last century)….
From Cavaliers to Hokies — always an upgrade!!!

  2. Sounded very solid. He was on greg roberts live tonight in roanoke. Grew up a clemson fan and after his fourth visit to tech he knew it was right. He indicated “They were able to answer all the questions unlike everyone else.”

  3. Oh my gosh!!!!! An Offensive Lineman…………..finally we are going after these positions! Coaches have gotten the message from the fans. Welcome to the Hokie Nation and we look forward to seeing you on Worsham Field at Lane Stadium. So excited about getting a great lineman.

    1. “An Offensive Lineman…………..finally we are going after these positions! Coaches have gotten the message from the fans.” Really? The coaches haven’t been going after OL? They have gotten the message…? WADR, I don’t think you know very much about our coaches and recruiting.

    2. LOL!!!!!!!!! Yeah, coaches finally listened to the fans. Pretty soon we’ll be able to call plays.

    3. We have 4 OL coming in 2018; and we had 3 the previous year. Average is about 3.3 OL per anum. and most r-shirt the first year to slim down and build up. It is just back in the Newsome era the quality was not let us say great. It is also the area that is most difficult to evaluate talent coming out of HS. this is something that has been mentioned by the Techsideline team.

  4. I know his film is highlights but this guy was pancaking guys and pushing them 5-10 yards back (see Bitter article).
    Good start for 2019

  5. did anyone notice that UNC hauled in 2 big time offensive lineman in the last class. Hope we can find a way to develop 2 and 3 star guys into Duane Brown look a likes. Also, need some espn top 150 lineman. Coached: keep grinding baby!

  6. Great a future road grader to plow holes for the running backs. Welcome on board to the HOKIE Nation. You look clean shaven now; but history is that you will end up a hairy beast on the line.

Good luck and look forward seeing on the field in 2020 (figure a rs year; typical for O-linemen; need you to trim down and build up).

  7. A talented Big Ugly…I like it! Kids are taking notice of what CJF and Co. are putting together…hopefully he’s solid in his commitment!
