The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that Frank Beamer has been named to the College Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2018. Beamer will be officially inducted in December of 2018.

This was Beamer’s first time on the ballot, so he is a first-ballot inductee.

For a football coach to be inducted, he must be retired three full seasons if less than 70 years old. If the coach is 70 years old (Beamer is 71), he is eligible immediately. The coach must also have coached in at least 100 games with a winning percentage of .600. Beamer’s overall record at Murray State (42-23-2) and Virginia Tech (238-121-2) was 280-143-4 (.656).

Beamer’s 280 victories rank sixth overall in FBS history and are the 13th most by a college football coach at any NCAA division.

“I’d like to thank our administration and former Virginia Tech players, coaches and support staff,” Beamer said. “Without them, we wouldn’t have enjoyed the success we did as a football program,” Beamer said in a statement released by Virginia Tech.

  1. As a classmate and fan I couldn’t be prouder of Coach. In addition I grew up in SWVA and I know how he sees himself and the Hokies. He never made excuses or whined or thought thinking bigger was out of the question. His faith in VT and ours in him were well deserved.

  2. Extremely well-deserved. Coach Beamer is a class act all the way around, and taught generations of young men integrity in both sports and life. Huge congrats, Coach!

  3. A first class person most of all and then a first class coach. Well deserved and coach will always be associated with Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech with Coach Beamer. I believe everyone associated with collage athletics knows how much Coach Beamer has given to athletics in general, not just football. There are not enough awards to properly recognize Coach Beamer for all that he has done for college athletics and Virginia Tech. That is why the street was renamed Beamer Way – the RIGHT WAY!

  4. The surprise would have been if he wasn’t elected his first time on the ballot. Congratulations on a well-deserved honor, coach. Your character and integrity makes all Hokies proud to be associated with you!

  8. Probably one of the most honest and ethical college football coach ever. Raised VT football to a new level during his time at VT.

  9. A nicer person than he was a coach, and he was a GREAT coach!………….what a shame he couldn’t seal the deal in 99-00 MNC game vs FSU.
