With only one year in the saddle, i believe he can be judged only by the X’s and 0’s plus, of course, the win/loss record. Thus far, I would say he is in the “elite” group of coaches. Given the next three or four years, he can be judged including his recruiting record..although there is much more involved with recruiting that is out o fhis hands such as history of the program, location, facilities, etc. One other test I believe in for being an elite coach is winning the “Big Game”. In the past, our record for that has been far from the best.. Time will tell. I for one, just hope we can keep him.
Ricky (i think) mentions CJF being among the “elite” coaches in the country. im just curious what makes you think that? i think he is a very good Xs and Os guy, and hes getting great play out of a bunch of freshmen this year, but to date he hasnt done anything to truly make him “elite”? i think hes a top 10-15 coach no doubt, but Saban, Meyer, Dabo (yes) are elite IMO. i think what would make him elite is getting those top 15 recruiting classes year after year like Dabo has done, but as of right now i would just consider him in the “next best” category.
