Coleton Beck Earns Virginia Tech Scholarship Offer

In an interesting turn of events, Virginia Tech offered a scholarship to Blacksburg High School running back Coleton Beck on Friday night.  This came nearly two months after Beck camped at Tech and did not earn a scholarship immediately following.

At the time, the coaching staff was planning on taking one running back in this recruiting class, so when Caleb Steward verbally committed to the Hokies, everybody expected that running back recruiting was done for the 2018 class.  Then out of the blue, Tech extended the offer to Beck.

Something happened between June and the first week of August camp to make the coaches decide that it would be better to take two running backs in the 2018 class.  They didn’t offer Beck just because he’s a local guy.  If they wanted to do that, they would have done it a long time ago.  For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.  So, what caused the coaching staff to offer Beck?

It could be an issue of projected attrition.  As of right now, the following scholarship running backs are eligible to be on the roster in 2018…
