Virginia Tech is wrapping up their Class of 2017, but the Hokie coaches are keeping tabs on future recruits as well. The Hokies have issued several offers over the last couple weeks, including one to 2019 offensive tackle Quinn Carroll.
Carroll might be familiar. His brother, Collin, played at Virginia Tech from 2007-2011. Carroll was a long snapper, playing in 55 career games. Needless to say, the Carroll family and Virginia Tech have a connection.
“I was pumped about it,” Carroll said. “I’ve always been a Hokies fan, since I was like six or seven. It’s a lot of fun for me and my family.”
Quinn Carroll said that he’s been to Blacksburg once when he was younger and hasn’t been back since.
“I went there once when I was really little and I don’t remember it very well,” Carroll said. “All I remember is the gameday atmosphere. They played Clemson and it was packed full. The Enter Sandman tradition is awesome, I love that.”
Carroll said that Offensive Line Coach Vance Vice was the one to issue the scholarship offer.
“That was our first conversation,” Carroll said. “I like him a lot and he seems to like me back.”
Carroll is listed at 6-foot-6, 280-pounds. The Minneapolis, MN. native plays offensive tackle for Edina High School. Carroll has attracted the attention of several big-time programs and holds offers from Arkansas, Iowa State, Iowa, LSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
As a rising junior, Carroll has plenty of time to make a decision and start narrowing down his list of schools. He says he isn’t going to rush anything.
“I’ve got some time to make a decision,” Carroll said. “Currently, I’m just collecting information from each school. I’d like to take visits to see what I like about the coaches and the atmosphere.”
Fortunately for Quinn, he can rely on his brother to give him insight on what it’s like being a student-athlete, especially at Virginia Tech.
“He was very involved at Tech with his academics, the football team, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), Athletes in Action, that sort of stuff,” Carroll said. “I can rely on him a whole lot to set it to me straight and let me know what it’s like to be a student-athlete.”
Carroll said that he hasn’t confirmed any unofficial visits this spring and summer, but hopes to get to Virginia Tech at least once.
“I’ve been talking with my family and it came up in conversation with Vance Vice as well. We believe we’re going to be down in the spring, but if not, possibly a gameday visit in the fall,” Carroll said.
Let the tradition of brothers coming to VT continue!
