Hokies Ranked #17 AP, #19 Coaches

After throttling #17 North Carolina on the road 34-3, Virginia Tech has moved up in both polls. The Hokies rose from #25 to #17 in this week’s Associated Press football poll. The Hokies have entered the Amway Coaches Poll for the first time in 2016, debuting at #19.

The ranking is Tech’s highest since being ranked #17 in Week 3 of the 2014 season, after beating #8 Ohio State on the road. This is the first time the Hokies have been ranked in consecutive weeks since October of 2013, when they spent two weeks in a row in the rankings.

The Hokies are one of five ACC teams ranked this week:

  • AP Poll: Clemson #3, Louisville #7, Florida State #14, Miami #16, VT #17
  • Coaches Poll: Clemson #3, Louisville #7, Florida State #16, Miami #17, VT #19

In the coaches poll, the Hokies are tied with Arizona State as the top mover in the poll, rising from #31 (also receiving votes) last week to #19 this week, a +12 move. Arizona State moved from #36 to #24.

  1. Let’s “turn the page” and focus on smacking Syracuse in the mouth (my in-laws alma mater) this week. Then turn it again for the following Thursday and hand out another thorough butt whooping to our friends in Miami. Renewed hope is a beautiful thing…. I’m down right giddy…

  2. I think of these polls like a statistical tracking poll; you take last weeks ranking and average with this weeks performance. For the hokies last week #25, this weeks game about #10 so average is about #17.

  3. So we thrash UNC at their house and have one loss, FSU loses to that same UNC team at home and has 2 losses, and we are behind FSU? Miami yet to beat anyone, yet they lose at home and are ahead of us? It will all work out in the end, but I am confused if people watch games

    1. The media is in love with certain things, FSU and Miami in college football, Duke and UNC in basketball, and in politics…

    2. Beating UM is the only thing that matters. In terms of Hokie football. We are the new kid to all the pundits so let’s see who picks VT to win next week!
