Virginia Tech Recruiting Update: September 26-October 3

Virginia Tech basketballs Buzz Williams had himself another successful week on the recruiting trail, adding to the Class of 2017. Here’s your weekly recruiting update.

Bede headed to Virginia Tech

Wabissa Bede, a 4-star point guard from Lowell, MA., announced his commitment to Virginia Tech last week.

Bede joins Nickeil Alexander-Walker for the Class of 2017. Both are 4-star recruits, and Virginia Tech’s class is currently ranked as the 20th-best recruiting class in the country.  Alexander-Walker and Bede posed for pictures in their recent visit to Blacksburg…

The Hokies did land Bede, but missed on De’Vondre Perry, a Class of 2017 small forward who committed to Temple. Perry was one of the top targets for Virginia Tech in this class. Bede is Williams’ fourth commitment in two weeks, as the head Hokie landed three commitments for the Class of 2019 in Keyshaun Langley, Kobe Langley and BJ Mack.

Chances are, Tech isn’t quite done for the ’17 class. Some names to keep an eye on — guard Darryl Morsell, point guard Lindell Wigginton and shooting guard Jay Jay Chandler. Virginia Tech isn’t necessarily leading for these recruits, but they’re in the mix.

Speed sets official visit for December

Class of 2017 cornerback Ameer Speed will make his official visit to Virginia Tech on December 9-11.

Speed is a 3-star recruit from Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, FL, the same high school as Quran Hafiz, who was considered a Virginia Tech target just a couple months ago. Speed has 37 reported offers from plenty of big-time schools, including Auburn, Cal-Berkeley, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Tennessee and USC.

Tech commit Keene offered Michigan scholarship

Athlete Dalton Keene, who has been committed to Virginia Tech since April, picked up a scholarship offer from Michigan last week. The Wolverines had a decommitment from a tight end and are likely trying to fill that position. Keene, who’s expected to play tight end at Virginia Tech, is a 3-star recruit from Littleton, CO.

’19 basketball recruit picks up Virginia Tech offer

Virginia Tech offered Wendell Moore, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound small forward from Concord, NC. Moore is 4-star prospect and is 8th-best player in North Carolina, according to the 247Sports Composite rating. Moore has six reported scholarship offers from North Carolina, Wake Forest, NC State, Tennessee and now Virginia Tech.
