Class of 2017 target Wabissa Bede announced his commitment to Virginia Tech on Wednesday.

Bede is rated as a 4-star prospect and the #72 overall recruit by the 247Sports Composite rating. The Lowell, MA. native had 17 reported scholarship offers, including Boston College, Dayton, East Carolina, Nebraska and Providence. His top-five included Butler, La Salle, Massachusetts and Minnesota.

At 6-foot-1 and 180-pounds, Bede solidifies the Class of 2017 for Virginia Tech. He joins Nickeil Alexander-Walker as a commitment, giving the Hokies a solid one-two combination. Alexander-Walker is rated as the 39th best prospect in the country and the best prospect in Tennessee (though he’s originally from Canada).

The Hokies aren’t done in the Class of 2017. Virginia Tech will lose at least Seth Allen, Zach LeDay, Johnny Hamilton and Devin Wilson after the 2016-2017 season, as all four scholarship players are entering their final year of eligibility. (Editor’s Note: Because Wilson plays football, his scholarship no longer counts against the basketball program.)

  1. Ricky / Will, what was the biggest factor in the number of recent commits? Is it just that time of year?

Is that 4 commits in the span of two weeks? Was it great atmosphere during football weekends?

Definitely exciting, because these are GOOD players! Huuuuge change in the span of one year!!!!

  2. Remember, Devin Wilson in on football, not basketball scholarship. Buzz can not replace him with another scholarship player.
