Virginia Tech lost Dadi Nicolas, Luther Maddy and Corey Marshall following the 2015 season.  Two of those three guys will probably be drafted, and Marshall should also be in an NFL camp as a free agent next season.  On paper, those are tough losses.  However, on paper, the Hokies have the bodies to replace them.

Tech has seven scholarship defensive ends this spring, and six of them are actually healthy (as far as I know they are healthy…VT hasn’t released an injury report yet).
