1) Other coaches tell elite front seven defensive prospects that going to VT will hurt their prospects because no team in the NFL runs our defense. It seems to be effective. Why do the spread offenses not suffer the same recruiting disadvantages? I just heard from Bill Pollian the NFL is suffering a crisis on the offensive line because these spread offenses aren’t preparing linemen for the NFL. Some rookies have never been in a three point stance before. Seems if we’re getting killed in recruiting on defense because of the NFL argument, we should be cleaning up on offense. – RoswellGAHokie

Chris Coleman: Just about every offense in college football uses at least a few spread formations these days. The fact of the matter is that the shotgun has become the primary formation in college football, as far as I can tell. If you want to play in an offense that doesn’t feature any spread elements…well, you might as well just give up football altogether.
