Emmanuel Belmar Reflects On Commitment To VT

Collins Hill (Suwanee, GA) linebacker Emmanuel Belmar first heard from Virginia Tech in late January/early February of this year. Roughly one week later, Tech became the first school to offer a scholarship to the 6’3”, 220-pound prospect.

Torrian Gray led the way initially as Belmar’s primary recruiter. Once the Hokies offered, defensive coordinator Bud Foster was in consistent contact with the class of 2016 standout.

“[The Tech staff] said multiple times how much they wanted me. They said they really liked me,” said Belmar, who, in addition to Tech, received scholarship offers from Colorado State, Syracuse, Virginia and Missouri, among others. Missouri offered just last week.

Prior to learning he had a scholarship offer from head coach Frank Beamer, the only thing Belmar knew about Tech was that the Hokies defeated Ohio State last year. But on July 20, Belmar’s parents called Virginia Tech’s staff before handing the phone off to their son, who then verbally committed to the Hokies. The Peach State standout made two unofficial visits to Blacksburg before arriving at his decision.
