Coach Discusses Hokies CB Commit

Virginia Tech commit Troy Pride Jr. transferred to Greer High School (S.C.) before the 2014/2015 school year, which is his junior year. It certainly didn’t take him long to adjust to a new team. The 6’0”, 180-pound cornerback had eight interceptions and was named the team’s defensive back of the year following the 2014 season.

“He transferred to us last summer from a nearby school. He enrolled in our International Business program, so he’s an excellent student. We knew a little about him from playing against his team,” Greer head coach Will Young said of Pride. “He has speed and athletic ability. He’s a pretty long kid for a corner. He’s 6’0” and he moves extremely well.”

Cornerback is the position Virginia Tech is recruiting Pride to play; however, he did see some action on offense last season.

“Deeper into the season, we used him more on offense,” Young said. “He played some wide receiver and running back. He scored some touchdowns for us. The kid has got a tremendous amount of athletic ability. His future is bright.”
