Smith Thankful To Officially Be A Hokie

There is at least one thing we know Tyrell Smith was thankful for this Thanksgiving. Earlier this month, the 6’4”, 285-pound offensive line prospect learned that he had gained admission to Virginia Tech. He will begin his college career in Blacksburg in January of 2015.

“It’s a huge weight off my shoulders,” said Smith, who signed a letter of intent with Tech in February of 2014 but was not accepted for admission this past summer. He enrolled at Cushing Academy (Ashburnham, MA) this fall for postgraduate work.

“While I’ve been up at prep school, I’ve been making sure my grades are right and preparing myself to take the SAT. I got the scores I needed and was accepted based off that.”

Smith learned of his admission through e-mail. Just a few days later, he received an official letter in the mail. While he had hoped to gain admission last summer after graduating from Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), Smith feels his experience at Cushing will prove beneficial.
