Alexander A Top Player On Tough Independence D

Shane Beamer visited Independence High School (Charlotte, N.C.) this past spring to eye Adonis Alexander, one of the Patriots’ top prospects. Patriots head coach Joe Evans recalls the Tech running backs coach being impressed with what he saw out of the 6’3″, 195-pound safety prospect.

“During the spring, a lot of coaches come by. Coach Shane Beamer came by from Virginia Tech,” Evans said. “Adonis is not a big combine guy. Coach Beamer loved him. He was hanging out at practice and saw Adonis running around. He knew who he was. I think he saw how physically imposing Adonis is. Coach Beamer’s first words were, ‘Kam Chancellor.'”

Alexander pledged to the Hokies on July 12. A strong comfort level on campus and playing for Bud Foster were primary reasons behind the standout prospect’s decision.

“With him being a defensive guy and a safety, he thought he fit in well with the way Coach Foster moves guys around,” Evans said. “He fits in the program. Kam Chancellor and Sean Taylor are two of his favorite safeties of all time. He went to Clemson, [NC] State, and Virginia Tech. He just felt comfortable on campus. I had a couple of conversations with him and his dad. You have to feel comfortable. He felt comfortable on campus at Virginia Tech.”
