UF Offers DE Gaines

The competition for Nash (Rocky Mount, N.C.) defensive end Houshun Gaines got a little tougher yesterday, when the University of Florida extended a scholarship offer. Gaines, a 6’4”, 210-pound rising senior, previously held offers from Boston College, Duke, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

“It was just amazing,” Gaines said when asked for his reaction to the offer from the Gators. “It’s so unreal. It’s Florida. I really didn’t know what to say. I know about Florida and I did watch Florida some growing up. Just the fact that they would come up to see me, it’s amazing.”

Gaines has visited Virginia Tech and NC State so far this year. He plans to make a number of college visits in June and July, mentioning specifically Boston College, Duke, Florida, Miami, NC State and Vanderbilt as destinations. Gaines says he did tell Tech’s Charley Wiles that he plans to return to Blacksburg at some point. A visit to Virginia is also possible.
