VT’s Recruits React To Johnson’s Dismissal

James Johnson and his staff recruited and signed a solid 3-man recruiting class last November. Two of those players – Justin Bibbs and Jalen Hudson – have reached 4-star status by at least one of the four national recruiting outlets. But following a 9-21 season in 2013/2014, Johnson was let go as Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach, leaving the three recruits left to wait and see who new Hokies athletic director Whit Babcock will hire.

Bibbs, a product of Montverde Academy (FL), and McGill Toolen (Mobile, AL) senior TJ Lang took some time to discuss the situation. Bibbs answered questions via text while Lang took some time for a phone interview. Jerry Hudson, Jalen’s father, also discussed Johnson’s dismissal.

“I was surprised. I was in class when the news was released,” Lang said.

“I was disappointed mostly. I grew a great relationship with Coach JJ,” Bibbs wrote.
