Q&A: 4-Star WR Isaiah Ford

Virginia Tech football – and potentially basketball as well – received a boost National Signing Day, when Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, FL) standout Isaiah Ford signed with the Hokies over Florida, Louisville and Miami. Ford, a Class 3A first-team all-state wide receiver his senior season, was one of Frank Beamer’s top offensive targets in the class. The 6’2”, 180-pound prospect’s decision made a solid wide receiver class a very good one, as he is expected to see the field as a true freshman.

Ford-to-Virginia Tech was not a surprise. In fact, some prognosticators felt the standout athlete would make the flip last fall, when he took an official visit to Virginia Tech the weekend of October 25-27. After all, Ford had had a great unofficial visit to Blacksburg last summer, when he traveled to Tech and many other campuses despite having committed to Louisville in May. He decided to hold off, though, and didn’t publicly reopen his recruitment until Charlie Strong left Louisville for the head job at the University of Texas. He ultimately chose Virginia Tech on National Signing Day, and Tech fans should be sure to watch how his day unfolded in the video at the bottom of this piece.

Earlier this week, Ford took some time to reflect on his recruiting process and look ahead to his future at Virginia Tech, which will include football and basketball. He signed a football scholarship but will walk on to the basketball team. After totaling 918 yards of offense (717 receiving, 201 rushing) and 17 touchdowns on the gridiron last season, Ford shined in basketball as well, averaging 33 points per game.
