Tabyus Taylor Makes His Pick

Hopewell (VA) senior Tabyus Taylor was a recipient of several scholarship offers Frank Beamer and company extended late last month. This morning, the 6’1″, 215-pound running back/linebacker prospect accepted Virginia Tech’s offer.

“When Tabyus got the offer from Virginia Tech, he started doing some research,” Hopewell head coach Ricky Irby said. “And then Shane Beamer came by on Monday night to watch our basketball game. That meant a lot to Tabyus. He felt very comfortable with Coach Beamer and the other coaches. He felt very comfortable with everything Virginia Tech had to offer.

“This morning he came in. He talked with his mother and he said he was ready to call and let coach know he is excited to be part of Hokienation.”

Taylor amassed over 3,000 total yards, including 2,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving, his senior season, in which he helped Hopewell to 6-6 overall record that included a first round victory in the 3A East Region playoffs. The Blue Devils signal caller totaled 25 rushing touchdowns, 10 rushing touchdowns, three receiving scores, and returned one kick-off for a touchdown. Taylor enjoyed several monster games, rushing for 403 yards against Petersburg and 302 yards in a playoff win over York.
