The Latest On Fisher, Jefferson

Holland Fisher , Cequan Jefferson , and DJ Reid suited up for Fork Union Military Academy’s (VA) postgraduate squad for the final time last Friday. The game certainly didn’t go as planned with Atlanta Sports Academy (GA) rolling to a 47-27 victory over the Blue Devils, but the trio now sets their sights on accomplishing a larger goal, which is to do what they need to do academically to enroll at Virginia Tech this coming January. All three players signed letters of intent with the Hokies in February of 2013, but all three needed postgraduate work to gain admission to Tech.

“I’m basically focused on my academics. I’m working hard on the football side, too, but my main goal is to get eligible and get to Tech as soon as possible,” said Fisher, an Under Armour All-American as a senior at Manchester High School (Midlothian, VA).

Fisher earned captain status at FUMA. Now he is hoping to gain admission to VT in January.

FUMA postgrad head coach John Shuman expressed early confidence regarding Fisher’s situation, saying back in August that a “good plan” was in place to get the talented athlete to Tech in January. Fisher needs to finish with a good grade in Term 2 (one class is taken each term), which will be completed on December 12. He is also looking to improve on the SAT or ACT.

“I took my ACT a few weeks ago. My scores come back November 21. I’m also taking the SAT December 7, just to take it an extra time to get my score better,” Fisher said. “I should be set to go. If things didn’t go out as planned I could stay in spring and leave afterwards, but the main goal is leave in January. We’re working hard. Coach Shuman is working hard. Most likely I’ll leave early.”
