Recruiting Notes: Recapping Last Weekend

Virginia Tech’s second big recruiting weekend of the fall took place last weekend. Two high school seniors — Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, FL) wide receiver Isaiah Ford and Lawrence Central (Indianapolis, IN) linebacker Brandon Lee — were in Blacksburg on official visits, while the remaining prospects were in Blacksburg unofficially to watch the Hokies take on Duke.

The end result of the Duke game was a disappointment, but the atmosphere was good and recruits left impressed. 4-star Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi , a senior and one of top uncommitted prospects in the country, enjoyed his time.

“[Nnadi] really had a good time. All the guys enjoyed themselves. They loved it. It was a great atmosphere up there, as always, but nothing happened up there for [Nnadi] to say he is definitely going to commit right now. He is focused on taking official visits and making sure mom and dad are part of the process. But he loved it. There wasn’t anything bad about it,” Ocean Lakes head coach Chris Scott said. Dolphins senior running back Brandon Simmons and junior receiver/cornerback TJ Griffin accompanied the 6’2″, 305-pound Nnadi on Saturday.

Florida State, Ohio State, Penn State, and Virginia Tech are the top contenders for Nnadi, who is also considering UVa. The Cavaliers, though, are on the outside looking in. Coach Scott says Nnadi has not yet scheduled any official visit dates.
