Hokies release men’s basketball schedule

Virginia Tech released the 2013-14 men’s basketball schedule on Thursday afternoon.  The schedule is highlighted by home games against West Virginia, Syracuse, Virginia and North Carolina.

Syracuse is visiting Cassell Coliseum in their first year in the ACC despite never coming to Blacksburg when the schools were in the Big East together for four years.  That game, along with the UNC game, will be the premier ACC home games this season.

The Hokies won’t get nearly as much national TV exposure this year as they have in the past.  They are on ESPN/ESPN2 just twice (Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1pm vs. WVU on ESPN, and Saturday, March 8, 2pm at Georgia Tech, ESPN or ESPN2).  They also play just three games on ESPNU.  The rest of their conference games will be on either the ACC Network or RSN.

Tech also doesn’t play a single road non-conference game.  They’ll play national power Michigan State in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.  That game will be held on Friday, November 22 at 9:30pm on TruTV.  They’ll also play a second game in the Barclays Center the next day, either the Championship or Consolation game of the event.

The Hokies will play VCU in the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday, December 21.  That game is part of the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic.

Virginia Tech will open their season against USC Upstate on Saturday, November 9.  They will also host West Virginia, Western Carolina, VMI, Furman, Radford, Winthrop, UNC Greensboro and Maryland-Eastern Shore in Cassell Coliseum.
