Coveted ATH DeBerry Talks Recruiting

With 41 scholarship offers in the fold, St. Christopher’s (Richmond, VA) star Ricky DeBerry Jr. is certainly one of most coveted rising juniors in the state and the nation.  The 6’3″, 235-pound prospect has hit the recruiting trail in a big way this year, visiting numerous colleges.  One of DeBerry’s latest stops was the University of Virginia, a school he estimates he had seen three or four times previously.

“UVa’s a great place,” DeBerry said following the visit he made last Sunday.  “Coach London is a great guy. You can see why he connects with his players.  I’ve spoken with Coach Tenuta and Coach O’Brien, who are great coaches and guys themselves.  They have a great fan base.  Virginia offers a great education.  You can’t go wrong with a UVa education.  I’m looking forward to going to some games there this fall.  I know I’ll be at the UVa/Oregon game.”

In addition to the UVa/Oregon game, DeBerry says he will attend the Georgia/Clemson game at Clemson.  He is eyeing a game at Penn State as well.  As stated before, he has visited UVa several times.  He has been to Clemson and Georgia.  DeBerry has also taken trips to Baylor, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, TCU, and Virginia Tech.

“I thank God every day for the opportunities I have,” DeBerry said.  “I thank my parents for pushing me.  I know later down the road I’ll be able to share my experience with my own kids.  And with other prospects, if they need it I can give them advice.”
