Proehl Closing In On A Decision?

Providence (Charlotte, N.C.) rising senior Austin Proehl turned in an excellent performance at Virginia Tech’s one-day camp on July 13.  The 5’10”, 160-pound wide receiver impressed so much that he received a full scholarship offer from head coach Frank Beamer before heading home.

A month prior to the camp, Virginia Tech first year wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead told Proehl that he liked his film — in particular the way he ran routes — and invited him to come to camp.  Moorehead indicated that, with a good 40 time and a good performance overall, a scholarship offer could well come.

“Going in to the camp, I told myself to relax, run the best 40 time I could, and do what I needed to do to play to the best of my ability,” Proehl said.  “If I did that, I thought I could come out with [an offer].”

Proehl reflected on both sessions — the morning combine and the afternoon drills/one-on-one competitions — of the camp.
