Providence (Charlotte, N.C.) rising senior Austin Proehl turned in an excellent performance at Virginia Tech’s one-day camp on July 13. The 5’10”, 160-pound wide receiver impressed so much that he received a full scholarship offer from head coach Frank Beamer before heading home.
A month prior to the camp, Virginia Tech first year wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead told Proehl that he liked his film — in particular the way he ran routes — and invited him to come to camp. Moorehead indicated that, with a good 40 time and a good performance overall, a scholarship offer could well come.
“Going in to the camp, I told myself to relax, run the best 40 time I could, and do what I needed to do to play to the best of my ability,” Proehl said. “If I did that, I thought I could come out with [an offer].”
Proehl reflected on both sessions — the morning combine and the afternoon drills/one-on-one competitions — of the camp.
