Pettit Considers VT Offer

The offensive line — in particular, the interior offensive line — certainly seems to have been a priority for Virginia Tech this Spring Evaluation Period.  Patrick Henry (Deshler, OH) star offensive guard/defensive tackle  Colt Pettit was the recipient of one of a handful of scholarship offers the staff extended in the past month or so.

“Coach Grimes contacted me on Facebook,” Pettit said, recalling VT’s pursuit.  “He said he watched film.  He said he loved what he saw.  He liked everything about me.  A couple of weeks after, he stopped by the school.  He said Coach Beamer and the staff had a meeting where they showed Coach Beamer my highlights.  Four or five plays into my highlights, Coach Grimes said Coach Beamer stopped the film and said he had seen enough and that I had an offer.  That’s how much they liked my film.”

The 6’4″, 250-pound rising senior estimates he received “four or five” offers over the course of the Evaluation Period.  In addition to Tech, Ball State, Marshall, and Western Michigan came through as well.  Air Force, Indiana and Purdue are among the schools that had offered previously.

“I have fun with recruiting.  I’m enjoying the whole ride,” Pettit said.  “It’s humbling.  It’s cool to go to all these colleges and everything.”
