This past February, the University of Louisville became the first school to offer a scholarship to Hillside (Durham, N.C.) rising senior defensive back Kalen McCain . Virginia Tech offered in March. The first week in April, the 6’1″, 175-pound prospect took unofficial visits to both schools before making a verbal commitment to the Hokies.
McCain headed to Louisville on Friday, April 5, before traveling to Blacksburg on Saturday, April 6, for a Junior Day.
“I already kind of had a feeling about going to Virginia Tech,” McCain said, discussing his state of mind heading into those visits. Those schools were the main two contenders, but he also considered offers from Georgia Tech and N.C. State.
“When I first got the offer from Virginia Tech, I told my mom I liked them a lot and could see myself going there. She probably knew I wanted to go there. I told her I wanted to commit, and she was happy for me.”
