Massaponax (Fredericksburg, VA) rising senior defensive end Vinny Mihota has been solid to Virginia Tech since he committed last April, but that didn’t stop defending national champion Alabama from throwing its proverbial hat in the ring.

“My head coach received a call from [Alabama Outside Linebackers Coach Lance] Thompson.  My coach told me to call Nick Saban,” Mihota said.  “I called him and he said I have a full scholarship offer to attend Alabama.  I was very surprised.  It came out of nowhere.”

Mihota says he and Saban “had a really good conversation about how I would be a good fit for his program at either defensive end or outside linebacker.  Academically, as well.”

This unexpected development, however, has seemingly had no impact on how Mihota feels about his college decision.
