VT Football’s January Enrollment Primer

Early enrollment is a tool Virginia Tech has used quite frequently when it comes to recruiting.  Tech allows gray-shirts and early enrollees, and this year there will be a mix of both.

For those who don’t know what “gray-shirt” means, it’s simply a term describing a prospect that could enroll at the start of the school year (typically, most freshman football players enroll in the summer, just before the start of a full school year) but delays enrollment until the spring semester.  Woody Baron , Seth Dooley , and Jerome Wright are gray-shirts expected to enroll in January.

As it stands now, five prospects are sure bets to enroll at Tech next month.  Another prospect, Drew Harris , is awaiting word on whether or not he’ll be admitted.  And there is still the possibility that Tech adds another player mid-year.  Fork Union Military Academy postgrad offensive tackle Jonathan McLaughlin , for example, is still an option for the Hokies.  The 6’4″, 288-pound prospect, a native of Mauldin (S.C.), signed with ECU in 2012 but failed to qualify.  He is considering ECU, Tech, and UVa, and he says he plans to enroll at whichever school he chooses in January.

Here is a rundown of those incoming prospects planning to enroll at Tech next month.
