Brunswick (Lawrenceville, VA) kicked off the 2012 season in good fashion with a 20-19 win over Nottoway.  The Bulldogs then proceeded to lose five straight, at which point the season hung in the balance.  Virginia Tech-bound junior Xavier Burke and his teammates rallied, though, and are now winners of four straight heading into the first round of the Division 3, Region 1 playoffs.

Brunswick’s 18-2 win over rival Greensville County evened its overall record at 5-5, 4-2 in the Southside District.

“We knew we were a great team,” Burke said, discussing his team’s turnaround.  “We just had to make a change.  After the third game we lost, we started to make changes… attitude, position changes, and working hard.”

Friday night, Brunswick will take on Park View (South Hill).  The two teams squared off in the regular season with the Bulldogs taking the win, 42-26.
