The Latest On 2012 Recruit Thomas Smith

Thomas Smith , a 6’3″, 220-pound wide receiver prospect out of Lafayette High School in Williamsburg (VA), signed a letter of intent with Virginia Tech this past February.  The plan was to prep a semester at Fork Union before enrolling at Tech in January of 2013, but those plans have since changed.

“I didn’t get the grades I needed to get in high school.  I talked to the advisor at Virginia Tech, and they advised me to go to community college and spend a year there,” Smith said.  “I’ll attend Virginia Tech next summer.”

Smith would be attending community college in Virginia, but his father, who serves in the military, was transferred to Fort Bragg in North Carolina.  As a result, Smith, who has lived in eight different places in his life, is attending Fayetteville Tech.  He knows which courses he needs to take and what grades he needs to make to accomplish his goal of being at Tech next fall.

“Right now, I’m on course.  As long as I keep it up, I’ll be there,” Smith said.  “If I make these grades, I’ll be there in May or June.  It all rests on me.  I really want to get to Virginia Tech.”
