Several Hokies Up for National Awards

The folks that hand out college football’s season ending awards have begun releasing their preseason watch lists, and several Hokies made the cut.

Logan Thomas : Tech’s r-junior quarterback made the Maxwell Award watch list.  The Maxwell is given each year to the nation’s best overall player.

James Gayle , Bruce Taylor and Kyle Fuller : This trio of defensive stars made the watch list for the Bednarik Award, which is awarded each year to the best defensive player in the country.

Andrew Miller : The r-junior center is on the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, given to the nation’s top center.

Virginia Tech has had four major national award winners in the past.

Jake Grove: Rimington Trophy, 2003
Corey Moore: Lombardi Award and Nagurski Award, 1999
Michael Vick: ESPY for National Player of the Year, 1999
Bruce Smith: Outland Trophy, 1983

  1. Whats the latest on Bruce Taylor? Last I heard he was still in a walking boot and wasnt fully back from his injury. Everyone seems to just assume he’ll be back but apparantly this Lisfranc thing is no cake walk to come back from. I dont really know anything about it but thats what all of you keep saying. He’s a playmaker at mike and if he’s right he could be the difference between an outstanding defense and a top ranked defense IMO.

    1. He is not walking in a boot anymore, looks to be moving around fine … and is in good spirits, definitely ready for the fall

  2. Would be nice to add these:

    Logan Thomas: Heisman Trophy, 2012
    Maxwell Award, 2012

    1. Would be even better to add these:

      Logan Thomas: Heisman Trophy, 2013
      Maxwell Award, 2013

        1. …hey, what about National Championship Game MVP 2012??? Although I don’t have a problem with sharing the wealth so how about Kyle Fuller National Championship Game MVP 2012. If we’re coming up with a wish list, let’s be thorough.
