Hokies Nearly Finished with Defensive Class

Virginia Tech picked up a linebacker commitment from Elizabeth City, NC standout Jamieon Moss on Friday.  Moss originally committed to East Carolina in February, but changed his mind a few months after his childhood favorite got involved.  He is Tech’s third linebacker commit of the 2013 class.

Quick Scouting Report

Jamieon Moss is a tall, rangy linebacker prospect.  I can see him playing whip or backer for the Hokies, but with his current frame his likely long-term position is backer.  At 6-3, 210, he will probably end up playing at around 230-235 in college.

Moss has good size, and he has excellent closing speed.  He is at his best when attacking the line of scrimmage, which gives him an opportunity to use his speed and acceleration to make plays in the backfield.  His ability in pass coverage is an unknown, simply because all of his highlights from his film feature him in attack mode towards the line of scrimmage.
