Virginia Recruits Don’t Thrive Out of State

Every year Virginia Tech seems to go down to the wire with an out-of-state program for an in-state recruit or two.  Sometimes those guys head out-of-state and do very well for themselves.  Others take bad advice, or neglect to take good advice, and head to schools that don’t suit them.

Since 2007, Tech has been involved to the end with a number of in-state kids who selected an out-of-state school over the Hokies.  None of them have had much success.

To be honest, I wasn’t as high as some others on Thourogood as a quarterback.  When I saw him at the Tech camp along with David Watford and Marquise Williams, I thought he was the third best of that group.  That being said, he was athletic enough to play other positions in college if quarterback didn’t work out.  He committed to the Hokies, then changed his mind on Signing Day to sign with Vanderbilt.  Chris Beatty, a long-time coach in the 757 who doesn’t have the most positive reputation, recruited him to Vandy.
