Derrick Nnadi has emerged as a top prospect in the state of Virginia’s class of 2014.  The sophomore defensive tackle’s size — 6’2″, 305 pounds — is impressive, and this past season he became a real force on the Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach) varsity football squad.

“He is one of those guys who can be unstoppable inside,” Ocean Lakes head coach Chris Scott said.  “Being young and just turning 15 this past season, as the season went on he learned to be dominant more consistently.  He is put together.  He is doing great in the weight room.  In [the Richmond VTO Combine last month], he went up against top guards and tackles and kind of dominated in one-on-ones.”

Nnadi played on the Dolphins JV squad for most of his freshman year until he was called up for the varsity squad’s first round playoff match-up against Salem.  The then-freshman not only played, but he started the game that Salem ended up winning 27-17.

“My old coach told me to read my keys and focus on plays,” Nnadi said, reflecting on his first ever start on the varsity level.  “I know there were some things I could have done, things that could have helped us win.  I did have a fumble recovery in the second quarter.  It was my first fumble recovery, so I was acting pretty hyper at the moment (laughs).”
