Salem LB Reflects On Commitment To VT

Andrew Motu’apuaka was one of a flurry of commitments Virginia Tech received on April 21.  The Salem (Virginia Beach, VA) junior linebacker didn’t admit this before, but the Hokies were at the forefront of his thinking since Frank Beamer offered a scholarship in early 2012.

“VT was my favorite throughout my recruiting process because they showed me a lot of love and they were the first school to offer me,” Motu’apuaka wrote in an interview over Facebook.  He also considered offers from Stanford, James Madison and Old Dominion.

The 6’0″, 210-pound linebacker, a first-team all-Beach district and first-team all-Tidewater pick in 2011, was drawn to Tech for one main reason:  Bud Foster.

“I like the defense and mentality Coach Foster is running,” wrote Motu’apuaka, who is known as a tough, savvy and aggressive defender.  He had 97 tackles and three picks last season as a junior.  “The chance to play for one of the most respected defensive coordinators in the nation is what separated VT from the other schools.”
