Danny Coale to Dallas

Virginia Tech wide receiver Danny Coale was selected in the fifth round with the #152 overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday.  He was the final Hokie taken in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Coale is second all-time at Virginia Tech in receptions, finishing his career with 165 catches for 2,658 yards and eight touchdowns.  He also punted and returned punts during his career.  He averaged 43.5 yards per punt in 13 attempts in 2011, with a long of 61 yards.  He returned 10 punts for 74 yards in his career.

There are currently seven wide receivers on the Dallas roster, including Coale.  Three were rookies during the 2011 season, and none of them caught passes.  That means the door could be open for a lot of playing time for Coale.

Five other Tech players have signed rookie free agent contracts: Jarrett Boykin (Jacksonville), Jaymes Brooks (Green Bay), Eddie Whitley (Dallas), Blake DeChristopher (Arizona) and Cris Hill (Buffalo).

  1. Great news for David Wilson, Jayron Hosley. Both are in positions where they could earn some playing time in the fall. Great drafting by the Giants.

Very happy for Danny Coale, a much deserved confirmation of his determination and football ability. To bad it’s with Dallas. With the right team, he just might be the next Wes Welker in waiting.

    1. Actually, the Dallas situation is a pretty good one for him. The two starting WRs are set in stone here (Dez Bryant and Miles Austin), but the picture at backup WRs is very muddled. I think that DC has a good chance of being able to supplant one of those backups and stick on the Cowboys’ roster, especially since he can also punt and return punts in a pinch.

  2. As a Cowboys fan I can’t be more excited! Welcome aboard Danny. I may have to get a new Dallas jersey now with his number on it. 🙂

  3. Could not be happier for Danny Coale in spite of the fact that he was drafted by the ….ugh….Cowboys. Nevertheless, I am thrilled that he went to an NFC East team cuz that means we here in Tidewater will get to see him alot on TV.

A great kid is realizing a dream made possible, in part, because of VT being willing to make him a scholarship offer. Just goes to show ya……most of the time, our coaches really know what they’re doing.

    Great job, Danny!!!!

  4. Gawd, the pain…..

As a life-long Redskins fan, it was bad enough to see Wilson and Hosley drafted by the NYG. But my beloved Danny Coale to the nexus of evil?! What an awful draft outcome…

Nevertheless, I will swallow my disappointment and wish Danny and the other Hokies the best. I think DC will be a great pro receiver, maybe not in the Dallas spotlight, but somewhere that can appreciate and utilize his talents.

    1. Whoa, whoa
as an EAGLES fan, if there is a nexus of evil it resides with Dan Snyder and the ‘skins, though JJ and Dallas are not far behind, and those dudes on the Hudson are part of the axis of evil too. Seeing Wilson and Hosley in NY blue and Coale in silver and blue is enough to make my stomach turn. However, I will cheer for their success and the eventual transfer to EAGLE green.

      GO HOKIES!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Skins, Philly and Giants are the Axis of Evil 😉

Not a fan of the ‘Boys, but I think Coale ended up in a great situation. Very excite d for one of my favorite Hokies of all time.

        1. I can’t stand the Cowboys or the Giants ( or the Redskins ) but best of luck Hokies where ever you play.
