VT One Of Three Offers For Salem LB

Andrew Motu’apuaka , a native of Tonga, has lived in numerous places throughout the world, including Germany, New Zealand, and the United States.  He and his family settled in Virginia Beach in the fall of 2009, and in that span he has become one of Salem High School’s most productive football players.  The 6’0″, 210-pound linebacker earned first-team all-Tidewater honors this past season as a junior, when he racked up 97 tackles and three interceptions.

“I feel that my speed stands out for my position and my football IQ is better than a lot of linebackers,” said Motu’apuaka, who was an honorable mention all-Beach District selection in 2010.  In 2011, he earned first-team all-district honors and was the top vote-getter at linebacker.

A good all-around athlete, Motu’apuaka also runs track, throws the discus and shot-put, and wrestles.  He played basketball the first two years of high school.  Without question, though, football is his main sport.  Linebacker is his main position and where he will play on the college level.

“In college I think I will project to be an outside linebacker because of my size and speed,” he said.
