2012 WR Lands VT Offer

Virginia Tech has extended a scholarship offer to Martin Luther King (Lithonia, GA) senior wide receiver Joshua Stanford . The 6’2″, 170-pound prospect scored the offer this week, and he plans to travel to Blacksburg for an official visit next weekend.

“He’s a kid who was kind of under the radar,” Lions head coach Mike Carson said of Stanford. “He’s a kid who kind of got lost in the shuffle, but I think he is a major D-1 talent. He had 56 catches for over 1,000 yards for us. He had a couple of big kick-off returns. He’s a kid a lot of schools missed on.”

Stanford’s senior season was his first at Martin Luther King. He attended Duluth High School his junior year, so there was a transition period this season in terms of learning a new offense. By season’s end, Stanford had become the team’s number two receiver (in a 4-receiver offensive system). He’s a player Carson felt comfortable playing in the slot or out wide.

“He’s long, rangy, and he can run. Joshua is a 4.4 kid. He’s a track kid,” said Carson, whose squad also featured University of Georgia-bound wide receiver Blake Tibbs, a 4-star wide receiver according to Rivals.com. “Coaches like Joshua’s prospects as a player who can vertically stretch the defense.”
